Geneva 31 Aug 2018
Mr. Husam Alkatlaby announced today his resignation as Executive Director of the Violations Documentation Center (VDC).
Mr. Alkatlaby said in his letter to the VDC team: “At the end of this month, my career with the VDC reaches its end after almost three years. I have learned a lot from you and we faced together very difficult and stressful conditions documenting daily human rights abuses in Syria. We were able to overcome difficulties because of your patience and dedication to this organisation and its reputation, principles and goals. You are a working family and I will always be proud to have worked with you and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for every moment in these last three years. We will continue to share our values and principles in order to bring justice to the victims and hold criminals accountable.
And certainly above anything, I will be hoping and waiting for the return of our beloved forcibly disappeared in Syria: Razan Zeitouneh, Samira Al-Khalil, Nazem Hamadeh and Wael Hammadi.”
The VDC expresses its gratitude to Mr. Alkatlaby for the great efforts during the last three years under exceptional working conditions and his commitment to the objectives, principles and values of the organisation. The VDC team wishes all the best to Mr. Husam Alkatlaby in his next professional challenge.
The VDC announced the appointment of Mr. Yousef Wehbe as the new Executive Director of the VDC.
